The 10 Step Site Migration Process

Certain situations may arise were it will be necessary for you to migrate you existing website from one hosting company to another.  It may be the result of dissatisfaction with your current vendor, a need for more hosting related features and function or an ISP going out of business.  Whatever the case, there are many things to be considered when making such a move.

It quite likely that you existing site has established itself with the search engines in some way.  How high a ranking your site achieved will be a function to how much work you have done to make it visible to your target audience.  When you migrate this site, you want to preserve as much of your search engine optimization success as possible.  To do so, there are a number of steps you must take before, during and after the migration.

We came across an article from Simon Heseltine, Principal Marketing Manager at AOL Inc., talking about some of the lessons learned by their search engine optimization (SEO) team as a result of several site migrations.  I believe you will find it very helpful.
